So I am still young (well I think so) at 47. I still cannot get over feeling self conscious talking to my devices, be it setting an appointment or asking a question.

I heavily use google for my calendar and its so easy just telling my phone to set an appointment or meeting up at a certain time and day the only problem is I feel a bit silly doing it when other people are around.

Is it my generation or just me that feels this way, I love technology and use it to help where ever possible I just feel weird doing it in public.

Do you use Siri, Ok Goggle or Cortana without any hesitation in public or around friends and family ??

I very very rarely use it in public because if Siri doesn't hear what you said she has no shame in letting you and everyone around you know.
At home or in the car, whether in front of friends/family or not I'll use Siri all the time. Unless in the middle of conversation when it's quite rude to start talking to Siri lol

I don't think it's an age thing, I think a lot of people find it a tad uncomfortable. Even people who are and aren't tech enthusiasts don't quite get comfortable doing it. I guess in time it'll change.

A while ago a few of us were sitting around the dinner table and someone asked when daylight saving ended. None of us knew so I pulled out the phone and asked "when does daylight saving end?". This was followed by Siri saying "I didn't get that" because one of the dinner guests decided to spout "I think it's in three weeks" while the mic was still live. I don't think I've used it in front of other people since.

I would find that weird. I can't stand those voice recognition systems when you phone a company and have to tell the robot what service you require.

Age: 41

I've embraced it. I love it. I think I love it cause it feels like magic and I'm old enough to remember a time when this type of thing was fantasy and only available on Star Trek. It seemed like we'd never have that type of functionality.  I am even waiting for my Google Home to arrive (its in the country).  Its faster for me to ask my phone than to type it in.  Its not 100% accurate although its getting better and better what seems like daily.

I am, however, with the comments about background noise/conversation. Its not (yet) practical with lots of that around.

I just got around to setting up Cortana on my PC, I do have it on my surface pro and use it a lot and it seems to work pretty good. The wife gives me the odd look sometimes when using it but she is not very tech savvy and thinks I am strange lol.

My Mrs HATES that... I just mash buttons and swear at it until I get a human.

I do talk to google though, but only at  home or when driving. I wouldn't do it in public. (I also "talk" to other "drivers" that can't accelerate for 600metres)

I use it to answer questions I know it will get. Not in public as it's usually not able to hear and you look like a knob saying it really loudly.

I also only use Google where possible, as Siri shouldn't legally be allowed to be associated with the term "smart phone". OK Google can take on challenges such as "When was man last on the moon?" for example, where Siri will reveal how dumb she is in contrast. I use it st work for the likes of what's 5.5horsepower in kilowatts. It's also handy for setting 2am prank alarms on workmates phones, ash you don't need their password to achieve this.

I wish I could associate and replace an iPhone long press with Google instead.

I find it somewhat out of place to use, even around family.

Although to really think about it, it is no different to being overheard on a phonecall, voice chat or whatever.. simply seems more 'weird' as you are only talking to a device.

i'll give all the services listed in the OP credit though... they are far more better at understanding than the damnd IRD phone system....

I have used voice dialling on my phone when driving or typing but that's really the extent of it for me.

Apple added Siri to OSX on the desktop a while ago and I do not think I have used it at all yet. What can it do that I can't do with a mouse and a keyboard? Nothing at all really.
