EDIT: wrong title, sorry

Hey guys,

Looks like you can spend 100 Flybuys for the privilege of buying these headphones ~$100 OVER the current Noel Leeming price... Who's in?

Been getting the flybuys "spend your flybuys before they expire" message, had a look and wasn't really anything we needed, but eventually settled on an item that was flybuys + cash to get it, went and checked what the actual price was at Noel's just slightly more expensive than the flybuys + cash..... so why even bother.

I'm picking flybuys days are numbered, they used to be worthwhile, used to influence where things were brought, now it's just not worth the hassle

Basically few if any items purchased from these kinds of rewards schemes will be offered at anything like a competitive 'price', whether it be Flybuys, Airpoints shops etc.

As such, the only thing we buy with our Flybuys these days is New World gift cards, thereby essentially turning them something of value and use. And then buy a bottle or two of nice wine with them!

Trade your flybys points in for vouchers. Then buy when on sale. That's certainly what I do in preference to letting the points expire.

Bad news: you can no longer get New World gift cards.

They only seem to do it around xmas for the new world cards.

I save my flybuys up and either get new world gift cards that buy the xmas food or get a couple of bottles of rum :)

The New World gift cards are a on and off again thing, certainly of late that's all I ever use my points for now. Is the New World gift cards not going to be offered again?

I used to go out of my way to some extent to get fly buys but now it has no bearing whatsoever where I go. It is my useful to me than one card though,I normally get to 170 points of 200 required then they expire. I've earnt over 1000 one card points and never had a voucher.

They created there own program (club card) that rewards either flybuys or airpoints.

I just got my new card that gets flybuys, also their website still has information about flybuys.

More info

Now back when I use to look after the flybuys system for a company that offered flybuys they also needed to offer rewards to flybuys for people to pick.  I would say this is still the case however new world gift cards look more like an on/off promo during the year.  Last 2 xmas I have been using my flybuys to get gift cards for xmas shopping.

To me Fly Buys is no longer relevant. It was hard to get anything from day 1, and now it seems even harder than before.

Been a member of many years... gotten not much, if anything decent for a good deal. Nowadays I don't even bring the card out, no matter how large a purchase I make.

A lot of stores are now doing their own schemes. I was sent a card without even signing up. The problem is that having lots of different cards and schemes not only adds bulk to the wallet, but it dilutes the ability for consumers to gain much advantage in being able to accumulate enough usable points in each scheme, before they expire. Yet the companies gain a lot from you on your buying habits. Therefore I decided to no longer bother with any of them.

I only use the flybuys at Z for the pumped discounts. Otherwise no point.

The only one of these that used to be vaguely useful for us was the Countdown one when they used to send you vouchers in dollars every so often. Then they changed it so that unless you had X points per period, you got nothing and the points reset to zero rather than carrying over. That ruined that one for us.

Flybuys has never done much - I converted them in Airpoints when you could still do that.

I never use any of the fuel ones really, as I fill our vehicles using our company fuel cards and you can't use any other form of discount with those.

I am sorry, I was wrong regarding the FlyBuys association.

Part of what severely declined my interest in flybuys was when it changed from 1 point per $20 spent on fuel or in store to 1 per 20l and nothing per $20 instore (except on certain changing deals).

Ditto when AA used to dish out $20 petrol vouchers per $1000 petrol spend, which increased to $20 per $2000 spend, and now is just a discount. Back in 1998 i was getting about 2.5 times my annual membership cost back in petrol vouchers. It was great while it lasted.

I did the numbers for myself on flybuys a few years ago and worked out if i changed power, insurance and internet to flybuys cmpanies, as well as buying all my fuel at Z, it would be a struggle to earn enough points to buy anything decent. I didn't want to start shopping at New World as they are expensive, and little purchases here and there aren't worth the effort.

The only one I bother with is AA fuel card, and even then I just get the 6-10 cents on the day. I used to save them all up and get a half price fill before it expires, but it takes a bit of effort to do $40 fills all the time so I just get the discount.
