Yep no false news it's summer in Wellington today. It's 28.6 in the Valley but there are huge cumulonimbus building over the Tararuas, so it could be short lived.

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.
And it's an opressive, humid kind of heat. Very unpleasant.
I have to work at home for at lest the next week. The office I've been working in since four days after the November earthquake has been closed for just-discovered remedial work.
It's hot and calm. Rooftop bar weather.

Let me know when we've had a week of it.

Until it is sunny with blue skys and void of clouds, it is not summer. Wellington has totally missed out this year. It is hot and humid, and overcast, but that isn't normal Wellington summer weather.
Not to dampen the excitement of summer being here, it is really unhelpful when trying to get some sleep after a nightshift. Nearly had to drag a mattress into the lounge where the heatpump is
When I was a kid in ChCh, summer was one VERY HIGH 30's day a year. Many mid 30's, the rest was high 20's sprinkled with 2 days of rain every 2 weeks.
Now its a mid 30 day once, a handful or less of low 30's. A good few high 20's. and mostly low to mid 20's. Global warming, not quite, but GW does give more weather, and in our case cooler weather.

28 in ChCh, in the sun, its bad, no ozone. 39 in Shreveport, Louisiana, at a mall carpark, that was fine. The air is warm, the sun is shiny, not terrible. But in ChCh the sun is harsh. I guess the same elsewhere in NZ. It feels like the sun is out, 28, HOT, cloud comes over, mild. I prefer elsewhere where the air is warm, nit the sun.
Got pretty warm in the Wairarapa today.
I had the a/c on by 11am, so it was only 19 for the rest of it!
