Surely you'd think it is most important for the metservice website to work when the weather is bad.

But, every time there is a big weather event, metservice website crashes!

Today is no different.

This works though...

The storm doesnt look that powerful from that map, Ive seen ones hit us with 120+ kph winds. Thats only 80-90KPH. Then again im no meteorologist.

My Red Cross app tells me up to 120km/h winds are expected this time too?

Why can't it handle the page views?

Is their equipment and internet connection sub par?

Himself has just had a big rant about the metservice website. He seems unconsoled with the knowledge that it's not just him.

Not a good look for them really. Major storm approaching and their site can't handle the sudden and perfectly predictable demand on it.

I pointed this thread out to someone I know at the Met Service. Funny thing is I think Met Service do a lot of work with AWS which is perfect for this kind of website, but according to a trace their website is hosted somewhere in NZ.

They have a cached page that shows a brief forecast here: http://www2.metservice.com/

It's not great, but better than nothing!

Maybe if there was a paid option for the new app, they would have the funds. 😛

And if you CAN get to the page, the ads seem to load and b*gger all else!

Always useless when Canterbury has a "snow event" too.
