She says American are very friendly, and always hold doors open for her.

As a balding middle aged man, I can't remember Americans being overly friendly, or holding the door open for me ;)

Having lived in Atlanta GA for 6 years in the early 2000's , I have to agree with most of what she is saying. 99% of the people we met were very friendly and welcoming. Most of them were polite and curtious. Holding doors open, even when you were a long way from the door was common. For those that have never visited the USA, only have the TV & what is reported in the media to judge the country & its people on. This is far from the America my wife & I experienced. On a whole they are warm & friendly people, based on what I experienced. I have made some life long friends from living there and travel back to see them every couple of years. We even have an 11 year child born there that holds a US & a Kiwi passport. With that US passport, she will have so many more opportunities available to her when she gets older. Given, Ithe chance again, I would live back there in a heartbeat.

Small town USA is very different from the large metro areas as well. I've travelled through a few small places in my time there and always been struck by the observance of common courtesy and a level of formal politeness which I appreciate. "Yeah, cool" is not always an appropriate response...!
