I know there's only so many people in NZ, and being a "Dame" doesn't confer anything but bragging rights.

However introducing more reality TV to NZ is as welcome as introducing syphilis in the early 19th century.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11869019

"The woman credited with making reality television a ubiquitous presence on New Zealand's small screens says the format is here to stay, and she couldn't be prouder.

Julie Christie was today made a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to governance and the television industry."

This is depressing.

So this is this really how it works. You get celebrated for driving a company into the earth. Actually not making anything better at all and devaluing a whole company, gutting it of any good will. Which by the way is the only way Mediaworks could survive in the current broadcast and Online digital climate. While giving you and your mates an 8 million dollar (and that's only what we know about) pay rise. Julie Christie, Mark Weldon, and all the other upper echelon executives you have failed. Hang your heads in shame. The speed at which they've achieved this is astounding.

By the way, Not only have they let down the good people of their company, I believe they've actually done a dis-service to NZ by contributing hugely to the erosion of truly valuable investigative journalism in this country.

If the Queen actually knew, I'm sure she'd need more than a cup of tea.

Just goes to show what TPTB value - someone that distracts the populace from actual life. Quite handy when you're up to some no good.

Now they're scrapping the bottom of the barrel or she is a big party campaign donor.

I see our ex PM also got one. I think they could have waited a bit longer. Wasn't it National who brought back in Sirs and Dames, after Labour scrapped it? I am not sure if I agree with it so much in these current times. Usually the people who get them feel embarrassed to be referred to as sir or dame anyway. Seems they are mainly given to politicians, lawyers sports people or people in the media alot these days.

My neighbour got one a while back. Anyone who recalls Brierley Investments will wonder why.

Some people richly deserve recognition, this dame certainly doesn't.

The good news is, that for that sort of person (based on the description above) never being heard of would be the worst thing ever!
