Trademe is getting rid of Safetrader which was very useful in the past for me.

They claim that their new 'Raise a Dispute' negates the need of Safetrader but unless you use their credit system as a seller or buyer you have basically no protection see here:

Recently I received goods described as new, arrived damaged/broken/unusable and after politely letting seller know (who didnt give a toss) had the time wasting experience of using TradeMe Disputes which ended by them sending me this result:

We've found the best way to resolve disputes is through good communication, so we've contacted this trader with your concerns and encouraged them to come to an agreement with you. We'll also be keeping a close eye on the membership from now on. At this stage you may like to pursue this matter through other forums.

Regards,

Al.

Here's a really old thread from unhappy sellers.

Good, it was a piece of crap, and telling people that you refuse to use it makes you look suspect or something.

I have traded probably 3000 times on TM and not once have I been asked to use it, or felt inclined to use it myself.  I could care less.

Weird... it works over 4G but not on my work PC. Must be a misconfiguration somewhere along the line.

What range is your IP on fiber on? I had no end of problems with a 2degrees range in the past being on blacklists for lots of websites. The site looks like its from 2002 so probably running on tech that old too.

According to speedtest.net it's a Spark address. But we're getting off-topic here :)

Normally yes. But there is the odd time where a new seller, or low feedback seller has something for several hundred dollars which you want.

Rather than buyer beware Safetrader allows you to purchase goods with the guarantee they must comply with TM T&C or they dont get paid and you dont lose your money.

It's working from my home connection. "Really old" = 2007; ie. it's discussing SafeTrader itself rather than its disappearance.

Do you mean I couldn't care less? cool

To me "I could care less" means you actually care.

From Dictionary.com.

Etymologists suggest that “I could care less” emerged as a sarcastic variant employing Yiddish humor. They point to the different intonations used in saying “I couldn’t care less” versus “I could care less.”
