However only available to US viewers, I tried this to no avail. Has anyone else tried other avenues and succeed? Even cloaking your proxy did not seem to help.

Try Channel BT or CH Usenet.  They work fine..  SD and HD content..

its generally not true hd content, most often its a normal avi converted from an original hd broadcast.  so the res is still SD, just higher than the normal bitrate.
