Car dealers have demanded urgent tax reform after it was found that they face paying an extra £170 million in business rates over the next five years just as offshore rival Amazon enters the market.
Analysis conducted for The Times shows that reforms to business rates would result in car dealerships paying £1.4 billion over the next five years, an increase of almost 15 per cent on the previous five years. Meanwhile, Amazon, which will pay less in business rates at six of its nine big distribution centres, plans to start selling cars online.""

 So what's stopping the existing auto franchises from selling their cars on-line, distributing from bulk warehouses - costing them less in rates per unit delivered than glass and marble palace "showrooms" ? 

 

 Cars - with very few exceptions - are mass-produced appliances.
