Shell hasn't gone up yet. SInce its down the road and I had a half tank, I topped up... I heard two conflicting reports - one that they'll increase at 7PM tonight and the second is that they'll increase very soon.

Ok Labour, you imposed rather large taxes on our fuel in order to bring down usage... Prices are getting astronomically high, its time to meet us in the middle and lower your excess taxes.....

Am I glad I bike everywhere, won't be any good for going skiing though.

Maybe its the governments ploy to get people to use rail transport to help recover the amount spent on buying them.

I used to work for Mobil and know that there policy is to be the last to go up ... so when you notice they have gone up then you can be sure everyone else has. They ised to be the leader in all the price moves until about 3 years ago and got such bad press it was decided to always be last (of the 4 majors that is). Now BP is in the firing line.

Does annoy me that the Goverment will still bump up fuel 5c a litre as a 'Levy' ("its not a tax ...") abot once or twice a year and say that its needed, when in fact they are making huge returns on the GST element which is never mentioned.

I'm glad I usually bike to and from work as well.

I doubt that the extra tax is a ploy to get people to use public transport, it's merely exactly what it sounds like - an extra tax.

Of course, with taxes being percentage based rather than fixed amounts, the more the prices move up the more tax is collected.  No prizes for guessing who's rubbing their hands with glee (apart from the oil companies)...

I wouldn't have a problem with using public transport if I could rely on it!

The oil companies have been prophesising $2/L for several years, so now they're rushing to fulfil their prophesies.

They just said on the news on the radio that oil prices have fallen sharply, blamed it on the futures traders selling when prices reached $135/barrel. (After all, it's the futures traders who are causing a lot of the high prices...)

The didn't say how much it dropped, so I don't know how significant it was.

On the other hand, I thought I heard them softening us up for $2.50/L so the race is probably now on to get there first.
