I noticed about 30 baby spiders spread out around the edge of our ceiling this morning, and wonder if anyone happens to know what type they are?

Thanks! :)

Looks like a juvenile of those common brown striped-legged spiders you see around the house.

The ones that don't have webs.

No idea what they are called.

You mean juvenile White tail? They have a similar shape, and the banded brown legs, but the furry abdomen has me stumped.

Not a white tail.  They have a longer more slender abdomen. The abdomen fur may not be an adult feature.

That's very a similar shape and colouring to the spider I am thinking of but don't knoe the name of.  Quite quick, rove around the house, often seen on interior door frames etc.  Seem to grow to about 1cm in size.

Yeah I was thinking that common house spider too, but it didn't seem to match all the images I could find on google images. Either the legs or the abdomen didn't match.

But as you say Mike, the abdomen fur may not be an adult feature.

Glad it's not just me stumped with these :P

But can you trust him/her? wink

I'd much rather hear it from an arachnologist.

Probably true. But:
1 I don't know any arachnologists
2 what difference can a couple of legs make anyway?

Yo know how many bugs spiders eat? Hundreds of thousands....

You know how many spiders to a sqm of urban land? Thousands.....you just never notice 99.9% of them.

Helpful and harmless.

Having been bit on the toe by a redback (which also live in NZ) and driving through rush hour traffic in Sydney CBD one day to have a huntsman about the size of a dinner plate drop from it's home on the sun visor onto my lap, I'm not fond of the concept of spiders being "harmless".  Most may be, but they're all evil - possible exception small colorful jumping spiders:

What could be more harmless than a cute fuzzy multi-eyed predator creeping around with a psychedelic fake face that'd give crunchy the clown nightmares...
