I love trade-me. I just bought an old optiplex Pentium3 for $20. Works fine, runs XP and the kids are delighted.

Auctions like the one above make my blood boil. Wild claims of performance from naive sellers can be excused, but so-called 'system builders'?
Comments like "throwing in ms office for free", "$80 to install XP" "amd4600+ outperforms quad-cores"
My personal favourite "8400gs graphics card, these cards are high end high quality cards providing nothing but the best performance"

aghhh.

What really worries me is the number of spelling errors in all questions and answers. My goodness...

Speaking of cheap PC's, what would you pay for a 333mhz pc with 56megs of ram?

A classic from my home town

Wow, that's like shopping at Dodgy 'R' Us!

Trade-Me seriously does my head in as no-one seems to follow the rules (spot the TM virgin).  Look at that auction... one of TM's rules is that you can't negotiate outside of an auction and you can't pull the auction without good reason.  I recently listed a really old lappie of mine and, even though I specifically listed it as pick-up only, the number of times I got asked if I'd post it (#&*$%#).  And the chick who won the auction rang me almost straight away... "how much to send to Wanganui?  (again #&*$%#).  Needless to say, that sale fell through so I've listed it again - and what's the first question asked? (#&*$%#)  Yell

/me thinks my laptop may just have a wee bit more power than your IBM Laughing

OT - I've got an iPaq h3970 listed with a bluetooth GPS receiver and Navman SmartSt v3 (NZ maps) with a buy now of $150... is that overly optimistic (again, spot the TM virgin)?  MF prolly knows the real value - they used to be his Wink

[ANTIPLUG]

Ohh I have a good one from a recent trade. Was looking for a Class 1 bluetooth device with an antenna.
Wow, found one for $16.95

A few days later the device arrived in the post, to my surprise the antenna felt very "loose", so I popped off the top and lookies what I found. Notice anything wrong....?

Class 1 Bluetooth device with Antenna

After a bit of digging found that they sold the same product with the same description in nz, au, italy, canda, the us and singapore
Needless to say MallKiwi / MallAussi / ANCGlobal.net (all the same compnay) are NOT people to trade with.

It gets better, they didn't even claim ignorance, when I emailed them questioning the product this was the repsonse

MallKiwi:
Hi *****,
Nowadays an atenna is just a thing that most people want to have. It is the same with older mobile phones. But if you still want a refund please send back the Dongle with everything attached to:
....
Thank you

I almost died of laughter when I read that

That is outrageous!  I cant believe they do that espically since they know but emphasise their product as having an antenna!

I saw an auction for Windows Small Business Server 2003 software (can't find the details any longer unfortunately) where the listing was asking some outrageous price as a starting bid and claiming that they had checked the price with Microsoft who confirmed that it was worth at least $2500. I posted a comment that the RRP was only around $1500 and that I couldn't imagine MS making any sort of comment re price. The guy then banned me!

Needless to say, it didn't sell.
