It's a warm, crystal clear night here. I can see thousands of stars very clearly with the naked eye as we have almost no light pollution. Not a cloud to be seen for miles.

As I was taking the dogs out before bed, I just saw massive white flashes (4) way off  illuminating the horizon towards the south. There was no sound whatsoever.

What was it? Lightening very far away?

Probably not related, but also a lot of shooting stars this evening.

It is probably related. As shooting stars are space rocks entering earths atmosphere at high speed and burning up.

There was one in Auckland that I witnessed, which briefly lit up everything like daylight. Happened a few years ago.

Edit

found Herald article.

It's lightning. Seen it plenty of times in SC and what always feels weird is there is no thunder (because of the distance presumably).

That was my first thought too.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.
