It really annoys the .... out of me.

Gone are the days when a used item drops 25% the time its open.

Although Ebay Australia this is still the case, I really wish we had Ebay.

Im looking at Xbox one X at the moment, I havnt even approached any as they are all around $700. they Are $690 new.

Although I found this phenomena to not apply to all items. Perhaps its young people not realising you cant sell a used item for more than its new price :-)

It's a free market, so the only answer is that there exists people who are sufficiently uninformed that they will pay over the new price.

I see similar for other items freely available on Amazon such as Echo Dots... way cheaper to just purchase from Amazon than getting from some reseller on TM who adds no value.

theres a few xbox one x's on tm for$550 buy now, thats $150 cheaper than retail...

but i get your point, a lot of the time people want 80% or more for something that is second hand. the worst thing is the shipping costs though...

Oh can you PM me, maybe Its just the typical search engine, its not the best. $550 is a fair price for one thats a few months old and they have decided its not for them.

Yes I think partly its people dont know the prices but also people buy at prices way over priced.

Im in no hurry so can wait for a good deal to come along.

oh, how odd... i just searched "Xbox one x" and yeah, those 2 were the first 2 results. <=$600 i would say is a fair price for a second hand xbox one x at this stage, i wouldnt pay more than that.. heck i'd probably just buy brand new even if it was $600.... saving 13% isnt really worth it in this case IMO.

@TeaLeaf Agree I stay away from secondhand electronics because of the high price. I'd much rather buy new and local and have the security of returning the item to the store with any issues.

I sold 2 Amigas with a screen and accessories for around $300 last year. For a collector, no price is too high. (Looks at "rob1" on TM at his Amiga gear)

But for a day to day item, there are some con artists out there....and unfortunately victims to go with them.

Simple answer is because some idiots actually buy them. Have sold 2 items on TM in the last little while that sold for above retail. I thought that once they realised they would back out but nope, happy buyers that believed they bagged a bargain.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

The good old days you remember was probably when most stuff was used. T.M. is a market place for lots of new stuff now.

Buying expensive portable, hard to trace stuff like games consoles always make me nervous - it's hard to be sure they're not hot. I walked away from a laptop purchase because the seller seemed dicey and didn't know windows passwords etc.

The reason why they ask more than RRP etc is that the fees on trademe now are a joke. You are easily looking at 10% if you use paynow. Also intrade users will soon get their fees based off "sale price + shipping price" where it currently is based off just the sale price.

I tend to only use trademe now if I want something in the next day or 2 (and they confirm they can courier to me in that time frame). Otherwise its amazon or ali

Yup, we had a heated waterbed, and when we got rid of it (slicing the bladders on those things is fun when full of water :D ), my wife threw the heater part in the bin. I grabbed it out and put it on TM, get $70 for it :D Same with a washing machine that packed up, got $100 for it, the guy wanted it for parts to get his one going.
