I see the top of the Sky Tower was at Cat 2 Cyclone level

New norm thanks to global warming. NIWA says the warm seas wont go back to normal for a few months, so plenty of fuel for more of these

One of the other guys in the team here says there's a house being renovated at the end of his street. Overnight they kindly donated all their insulation batts to the entire neighbourhood.

Vector's online outage map doesn't seem to be up to date. Mum in Meadowbank has no power but nothing on Vector's map.

Likewise both AT and Maxx websites this morning had nothing about train disruption but there was a significant issue on southern line with bus shuttles required.

The AT android app was certainly very active earlier advising of outages and/or delays to western, eastern and southern routes.

There is a Portacom up the road from work, it is now on it's side on the other side of the road.

I don't consider myself a particularly cruel or vindictive person, but as a Wellington resident this event has made me smile a little on the inside.

No harm in a little schadenfreude, especially if it rhymes with your name!

Vector seem to be having trouble keeping it up to date. I did a drive by of 3 areas near my house at around 10pm, that the Vector App said had outages. Yet the power was back on.

This storm seems to have by far set a new record for the largest number of seperate outage faults at the same time. So the admin and dispatch staff are probably struggling to keep the fault management system up to date.

This also makes getting the power back on for everyone more difficult. As the average number of customers reconnected for each fault repaired would be low.

And the colder weather also means more demand from people who still have their power connected. Which makes it more difficult to temporarily connect larger numbers of customers to network assets that survived the storm.

Some plastic roofing stuff came down our drive.

One fence (amended) got broken, repaired now.

Going over to friends the morning after, there was crap everywhere. Mostly bins, fences and trees.

All down West Coast Rd, a metal panel (not corrugated iron) trashed, one wooden fence lying flat on lawn, trees and big meaty branches everywhere, including one on railside Ave in henderson.

Garden people everywhere, fire engines all over. Cops at numerous intersections directing gtraffic.

Waikumete cemetry had big branches all over.

2 garage doors buckled.

Heaps of mess everywhere.

Went for a walk today around Albany, and saw this tree split right into three in Kell Park.

A couple of trees down near the creek as well, but this was the most of it.
