Good on you! I don't think having Autism will be an issue.

Have a look at https://www.nzblood.co.nz/give-blood/donating/am-i-eligible/ to check your eligibility. A scan of https://www.nzblood.co.nz/Give-blood/Donating/Detailed-eligibility-criteria does not mention Autism.

Your best bet is to simply call NZ Blood on 0800 448 325 and ask.

Being autistic, in itself, causes nothing wrong to your blood.

There are other things however ... like being a pom.

Autism itself does not affect the quality or safety of your blood.

Two issues that might pop up: -

- Any medication you are taking (they do ask about medications).

- If you have any difficulty verbally expressing consent.  In addition to written consent (when I last donated blood) verbal confirmation was required.   Even then I am sure there would be work-arounds available via taking a support person with you.

On that last point I obviously don't know how autism personally affects you and I'm not assuming anything. I'm just aware from people I do know that it has a broad spectrum of effects.

All the best and good on you for donating.

wow! I had no idea about that website.
As a Type 1 Diabetic I've often wondered if I'm eligible to donate.
Looks like I'm not. frown

Neither am I it looks like, as I lived in the UK for 6 months as a kid in the late 80's.

Yeah, they always ask if you've travelled abroad in last 2 years but UK is named specifically on the form - I guess because of mad cow disease.

Me also. It's a shame as I would do so, although the warfarin would probably preview me if the UK but didn't.

Interestingly BSE also occurred in France (almost twice as many cases as the UK) and cases were found there as recently as 2016.

Yes, it's UK, France and Ireland on the form, but I guess UK would the most applicable here.
