Apparently found dead in a hotel room in France at age 61. The apparent cause of death - suicide.

I had mixed feelings when watching him. Sometimes I enjoyed his style, sometimes not. I always got the impression he was a tortured soul. Some of his drinking sessions even on air seemed quite excessive to me.

I always feel sad that people feel the only option available to them is to commit suicide.

With lack of better information, and given his history, I'd not be surprised if his death was accidental suicide by overdose.  Especially when travelling.

(ie buying "heroin" from not a regular trusted source might result in using heavily cut heroin - boosted back to strength with fentanyl etc)

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Yep - I should have checked TMZ first.

(Edit: to say that I'd have been much happier to find out it was accidental - even if it's a crazy thing to "wishfully think" that)

I understand the reasoning. I feel the same way.

As I said, I have mixed feelings about the man, but it still feels like a loss.

So sad, I enjoyed his shows. They were similar to Rick Stein but also very different.

Pretty sad. I didn't really get too much into his shows, but I respect him in the way he saw that food was a way of bringing people together, and a great way to travel and see new countries/cultures and meet new people.
