So what? It seems like clickbait to get the nation and workers riled up. The fact is The Warehouse is big. Have you been to one? They have staff everywhere, checkouts, return area, wandering around, let alone the admin staff. Its 2 per store, so what? Unless its a crime to improve profitability and competitiveness in order to stay in business and employ people? Seems so.

It may be a significant event for those 180 people. Large redundancies are usually news for that reason.

Repositioning for potential competition from Costco and things like that maybe.

The same question can be asked of the OP. If this is so irrelevant, why post about it?

I dont recall many companies announcing "we are dropping two staff for each highly staffed store"

I dont see less than two people per each large store significant.

180 sounds a lot. 1.9% doesnt.

NBR article says it's a proposal affecting some team leader and manager positions:

https://www.nbr.co.nz/article/warehouse-proposes-laying-180-staff-da-216614

actually I wish warehouse would eliminate those buy two get one free deals because when do I need two of anything? and then I don't buy the one thing I came in to buy because so annoying. Socks or undies ok yeah but the rest of it don't be silly..

It's not really the Warehouse style to make people flat out redundant maybe it won't happen exactly like that. I like the store atmos compared to briscoes and kmart and easier to get around.

Which is more newsworthy? This story about job losses, or a story on whether there has been too much media coverage about the PMs baby. Theses days it comes down to clicks.

I’ve read your post and it is nothing but you own subjective opinion. If the original news item is unworthy of being in the news based solely on a notion that a small number of a large company’s workforce potentially losing their jobs isn’t very interesting for no reason other than your belief of this being so, since this is merely the criterion of newsworthiness of one who can’t even use the apostrophe properly, it’s hard to see why it is worthy of its own thread either.

What a wonderful world it will be when people need to get your permission before they can write something. I can’t wait!

It's sensationalist, sells papers, that's why.  Also furthers First Unions political agenda's.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

180 jobs is 180 people affected by loss of income at the same time from the same company.

That's news. Anywhere.

People can decide for themselves whether they want to be riled up or not. At least they know what's going on.

Your failure of memory is just that. :-)

Redundancies are announced all the time...and reported as news.

I think it's news.

For a start, the warehouse has been struggling.

It is an indicator of company focus and there are reasons behind this.

Also, 180 people won't have a job soon. It is not easy out there.

Grow up

Lets say a business of 50 people nationwide, decides to trim costs and makes less than 1 redundant. Will that business that most won't (apostrophe checked) have heard of, be front page news?

And if you want to quote grammar "it is nothing but you own subjective opinion"
