I normally pick a Sunday afternoon, put a roast in the oven, and load up the dryer with anything needed for Monday - school uniforms etc. If I'm really organised, wash some bedding in the morning and tumble-dry it so its all fresh and fluffy for bedtime.

Had a free day from Mercury last month.

Had two a month or so ago and just got another last week. Yes, credit appeared on account fine.  I did a pyrolitic clean of the oven with one of mine plus dryer etc. Think its to measure how much people will use and long-term to compete with Electric Kiwi's free hour of power.

I get a free hour every day. Guess which provider I'm with?!

And that accounts for between 25 and 40% of our usage, so I think I'm getting my money's worth (ducted heat pump, electric heater, electric car, washing machine, dishwasher, sometimes a drier...)

Rates are a little lower, circa 6%, and there is no discount, so the hour of free power per day is the pseudo discount. Evening starts at 9pm, so we run dishwasher and washing machine then (we don't do this daily) and maybe crank up heatpump for the hour then turn it off to get some savings post 10pm

I'm totally aware I could be paying lower rates (both unit daily charges) with a different company to EK, but in my case I've not found any situation where these would mean my bill would be lower overall. Totally a matter of horses for courses, but in situations like ours when we have a couple of things that use a lot of power (all-of-house heating plus an electric car) makes it work for us (in the case of the car, because of low distances it's only charged outside the free hour for about another two hours per week).  Nos. below shows the % of power that wasn't charged for over the past 2-3 months (week ending...).

I have used it. But I would prefer they just reduced the rate. IMO it leads to people just wasting power. I know someone who just turned on every light, heater, dryer etc for 4 hours

I used mine on Monday night, it's the third one I've had this year.   I think they've done a good job on the EnergyIQ app. 

We used our 4 hours on Friday 10am - 2pm …. 3 loads of washing, drying, dish washer load, heaters throughout house, showers, bread making, casserole in oven then oven clean, vacuuming, … will be interesting to see just what the 'rebate' amounts to
