Yep, watched it as well. Not bad - seeing Wellington streets on TV in those situations is quite funny. It won't mean much for anyone outside the country - or perhaps even outside Wellington. But that's the fun part.

Thanks for the heads up - I rarely watch TV any more so hadn't heard of this, but will definitely check it out on demand.  Quite enjoyed WWDITS :)

It got a hell of a grant.. presumably due to the names behind it.

Didn't tickle my fancy.

Also suspect due to the names behind it TVNZ won't have too much trouble selling the rights to it - not sure exactly how the grants work but overall I'd say it'll be a net gain for NZ... In the scheme of things 1.5 million is very little and I'm happy for my tax dollars to be spent in this way.   (Quite enjoying it so far but yeah like everything by Waititi, Clements, etc I can see why it won't be everyone's cup of tea!)

I think they'll easily make a profit.

It also serves as a tourism commercial.

It's generating quite a buzz in the news outside of New Zealand, even as far afield as France.

Wellington Paranormal: The spin-off of "What We Do In The Shadows" begins today on TVNZ

We do not often talk about New Zealand series, but we make an exception today to announce the launch of the Wellington Paranormal comedy from theTVNZ channel.

A series derived from Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement's cult film "What We Do in the Shadows", "Wellington Paranormal" follows two characters from the movie, Minogue police officers (Mike Minogue) and O'Leary (Karen O'Leary) who intervene on cases involving paranormal creatures.

Like the film, "Wellington Paranormal" takes the form of a mockumentary in which we can meet supernatural creatures such as vampires, zombies or werewolves.

Note that, in addition to this spin-off series, the movie "What We Do in the Shadows" will be adapted for American television. The channel FX has commissioned a pilot starring Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou and Harvey Guillen who will be vampires in the series.

O'Leary is brilliant. Plays that stereotypical cop so well.

The brokenwood mysteries also screens in France. Quite popular I understand. I think they even dubbed it.

Watched the first episode.. it had some great moments, but overall didn't really grab me sadly, so can't see myself watching any more of it. Hope it does well, though.
