No wonder that so many Brits. head to a beach not in Britain.  On the global sea temperatures website today Brighton had a temp of 17 degrees c.  Most of the Black Sea had temperatures between 26 to 27 degrees.  Most of the Mediterranean a degree or two warmer at 27 to 28 degrees - Spain, South of France, Italy etc.

Some of those areas are showing sea surface temperatures way above normal.

In the Baltic for example - a massive 7 or 8 degrees above average, South of France 4 or 5 degrees above average.

Sweden is having a heatwave.

Bodies of water not being constantly replenished by oceanic currents seem most affected.

I vert rarely went in the sea without a wetsuit when I lived in the UK.  Another great thing about living in northern NZ, the sea is swimmable half the year

And there used to be a surf school at New Brighton in Christchurch. Even mid-summer with wetsuits, you'd see the people come out of the water shivering & so cold they could hardly get the suits off.

Updated:   Mallorca 28.7, parts of the Black Sea closer to 27 than 26.  No wonder the crews of Royal Navy ships welcomed a tour of duty in the Mediterranean Sea after protecting convoys to Russia.
