*sigh* Trademe is down for over 24 hours ... yet they still allow you to place an auction, but you can't buy or browse.. go figure! Talk about money grabbing... please place an auction that we charge you for but nobody can bid on it.

So whats the next best thing? I have read other threads and obviously there is

www.ebay.co.nz  (pretty lame - only 8019 items listed in New Zealand as of today)
www.zillion.co.nz (a bit better - 43,673 items listed in NZ as today)
www.ezyauctionz.co.nz (shocking interface but its free... not too many items)
www.te.co.nz (239,215 listings as of today)
www.bid4it.co.nz (8941 auction listings as of today)
www.graysonline.co.nz (commercial money grab! .. fees ontop of fees .. and no bargins)
www.auctionme.co.nz (dont even waste your time.. 200 items for sale and most of them crappy books!)
www.sellmefree.co.nz (1169 auctions and that including expired ones! - more ads than auctions on this site..very poor)
www.tradeanything.co.nz (<100 items, mostly womens lingere!)
www.webuy.co.nz (43,431 items...mostly commerical business advertising their wares)
www.sella.co.nz (claim to have 15,000+ items, but only 100 are private auctions.... dont waste your time)
www.swapshop.co.nz (480 items .... again mostly commercial vendors.. dont waste your time)

can anyone recommend another site that is actually worth it?
Cheers

trademe down for 24 hours? I don't think so.. Maybe its a problem with your internet connection/computer/ISP or alike.

what does it "do" when you try and connect?

Re: sella.co.nz - 15 000, with only 100 Private?

Hey Phez ... nice list of alternatives there. Interesting you picked up on sella.co.nz as we've only quietly released this last week. We think 100+ private auctions in a week is not bad - we expect a lot more when people realise we are FREE

I don't want to sound too spammy here ... admin's feel free to moderate ...

We've completely overhauled the site, we are working hard to reduce scams and such like & we are working with businesses to set up stores etc Over the coming weeks you'll see HEAPS of stuff being added to the site with no listing fees or success fees!!

If you spot any scams etc on the site, let us know asap so we can correct them. We are working with scambusters to help reduce/remove any: http://scambusters.co.nz/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4571

I wish you all the best, I would be willing to use it. I don't like the monoply tradme has at the moment. I just hope you invest time marketing the site so that more and more people advertise. People like real auctions, not just commerical vendors peddling their cheap chinese imports!

Cheers

I love the sentiment and it's something shared around here. We are leveraging our finda & wises teams .. so yes we are in this for the long haul.
We are working with finda businesses to get real product on the site, and we are trying to work so we can reduce the "rubbish" found on so many other sites. We think working with the community is the best place to start

A mis-spelt word for your domain seems a little odd, when it appears you do not own 'seller.co.nz'. Do you think you could lose some traffic due to that (even if its only a small amount).

Not spammy - you guys were mentioned fair and square...

Heh I just read it as "sell a...", as in
- Sell a PS3, or
- Sell a giant paper clip
etc.

I ain't hip with it though...

In that case, you would need "sellan.co.nz" if you were going to allow people to list Xboxes, otherwise the grammar does not stack up.

Tongue out

I didn't realise there were that many sites, well done. Go look. Not pleased with TM right now. Zillion is good, but I think people mainly buy cheap books there, judging by some of the seller stats on there, am going to check out the other sites you listed, Money mouth cheers
