Tracking a package from the US and getting text alerts on the tracking status which is nice. The package is now being delivered and I can use the USPS tracking number on NZ Post tracking. But more interesting is text alerts are still coming from USPS to the point the package has been delivered but nothing from NZ Post yet. And I signed up for their notifications also.

Be aware that 'delivery' in UPS may be as much as 'handed to delivery agent whos slapped on their on sticker too'

That's not actually USPS/NZPost integration. Packages passed between UPU members actually maintain tracking through the EMS intermediary - https://www.ems.post/en/global-network/tracking

So when an event happens, NZ Post or USPS send the event to EMS, and both carriers can display the events, though sometimes certain event types aren't fed into the EMS system (like for example a redirection to a post office may just be recorded as "delivered" depending how lazy the delivering carrier is).

Well it was pretty good anyway. Clearly Post must have been sending information to EMS who then sent it to USPS who then texted me (my US number)

Oh, I'm not saying it's not good - but just pointing out that the glue in this interaction is a common intermediary - the wonders of common standards!
