My son stalked me on Google Maps and saw a picture of me sitting outside my favourite lunchtime eatery, enjoying a little time outside for a smoke. That would have been between 1 and 3.00 or so. After a few minutes of teasing, we both jumped on Google Maps and went to the back of my office and car park. Google Maps had also captured  me on the 2nd floor private balcony of my office having a smoke with my PA!

Twice in one day? I see that everything appears to be timestamped now.

In the not too distant future our constant whereabouts will be tracked. But that's OK. Isn't it?

It's when they start doing facial recondition and correlation to market to you that you gotta worry!

Are you saying one of those Google camera cars snapped you twice in one day?

Facial recondition, there's a huge market for it. Targeted marketing would be rather effective I imagine.

Batman: Google maps is not live; how can your son stalk you on it?

Yeah, wrong words. But that's what they are taught at school by their teachers when they do these "exercises". I have just asked him and he said he was asked to follow where friends, family or objects that they may know could be. My son called it stalking.

He is the smart arse.

...probably years ago. They don't update street view very often.

Long gone has the opportunity to claim to your nana that you can remotely control a drone anywhere in the world right this second by doing a demonstration of google street view.

I guess this is further evidence that smoking is deadly.

That had been my thought as well, but you can bring up a timeline in maps. Lower Hutt High Street for instance was done in April 2008, Nov 2009, Aug 2013, Feb 2015, Dec 2017 and Feb 2018.

Whitmore Street in Wellington has been done 6 times as well.

In this instance just follow the smoke signals.
