Like most of you (I assume) I have a collection of various, old computer cables I've collected over the years.
I'm wanting to do a big clean up of them, can they be recycled or just tossed into the normal rubbish?

I know some of the wellington based scrap merchants will take them. Otherwise try your local e-waste people for (possibly) more ethical ways dispose of them
I was amazed when our local Salvation Army took a large box of computer and audio cables from us just the other week when they picked up a bunch of stuff after a large clean-up. I'd half-expected that box to be left, but they took that but not the exercycle!
Scrap should take them. If you can be bothered....but it's worth it, strip the plastic off them and just given them the copper. Worth quite a bit more.

Wellington landfills have a IT section that takes them for free. Both the one in Porirua and the Southern Landfill near Island Bay.

I wish my left over cables was only one of these small boxes, instead of the multiple that it currently is ... :-(
I have an 80L plastic storage bin full of AV cables - S-Video, Component, Audio, etc.
Had a fully wired component / 5 channel audio system ( Sky / Amp/ Projector, etc), S-Video ( Tivo, VHS).
Then HDMI came out, and the Sky box was replaced - no component, no S-video. . New set of cables.
Then higher-spec HDMI - more cables.
If we put our surplus cables together we would be able to fill a skip!

Then take the skip to the scrappie and get enough money to hoist a beer to our saving the planet. ... sounds like a plan.
Took 30 laptops, pcs, old printers, tools etc to metro refuse other day. Zero cost.
