Cynic though I am, it still amazes me the depths to which some people will sink to make a $.

Needless to say, there is no Paul Davidson of Invercargill whose daughter Christine Davidson was abducted six years ago, and whose tragic loss prompted him to invent this bleeper.

But there definitely is a scumbag who's plugging this $40 device, which, according to reports online, can be bought at a $2 shop, but  doesn't work anyway.

The best thing of all is changing the URL to see the same people seem to live in New Zealand, Australia and the UK.

There are lots of pages like this, some even copying CNN, Stuff or Herald design to make it look like a "news article". But you scroll to the bottom and they have the "This is an advertorial, not an actual news article". This is their "escape" in case someone complains and they go "Yes but the fineprint was there!"

You can notice the writing ("tone of voice") is never that of a newspaper or magazine. They also have fake comments or fake profiles for those "commenting".

Also the clickbait that ends in "one simple device"...

The number of links on Facebook to fake pages using other companies designs is also huge.

Hah that's awesome, I love how they even kept the same names and photos but just changed the cities for the "What people are saying" section at the bottom of the page.

From Aus and its pretty obvious, we measure in degrees Celsius, do not call it a mall nor do we even have "Middle School". It's sad and disrespectful to families who have experienced kidnappings.

It shows as Palmy Nth for me. Crap anyway, the ad is full of american lingo: "A sunny 72 degrees", "middle school", "100 feet", "guest of honor"

they missed out putting in 'honor roll student'.

I especially like the "(Random First Name) (Random Initial) from (Random City) purchased a Safe Personal Alarm (Random Number) minutes ago".

The HTML elements are actually called "randFirst", "randLast", "randLocation" and "randTime".

Site is US hosted, but the registrars name is hidden.

Given the Domain is registered via Namecheap then the expectations for honesty are extremely low.

And if I see those ads I block them. Mostly they show up when there isn't anything good to show - which is rare these days but a few slip.

Thanks for not blocking ads and if you see one of those please let me know the URL and I will block them.
