Stuff sale on agenda, says new owner.

A sale of Stuff Ltd is "on the agenda" of its new owner, Nine chief executive Hugh Marks has confirmed.

Australian television company Nine acquired Stuff, publisher of the Stuff website and newspapers including The Sunday Star-Times, The Dominion Post and The Press, last week as a result of its takeover of fellow Australian media business Fairfax Media.

Fairfax had owned the New Zealand business since 2003.

I'll bid $1. I know I am over capitalizing it, but for nostalgia sakes :)

From the headline, I thought you were selling off a load of gear... :- D

Whilst you may not get Trademe anymore, there's still Stuff Fibre, Neighbourly, and a partnership with EnergyClub.

As far as I'm concerned, journalism died in NZ when NZPA was shut down.

I read that as "Stuff up, for sale".

What a classy design of their website.  Every time it loads the whole page lurches up and down multiple times as the damned ads at each side start to display.

But they gave us Neighbourly where we can read about bored kids tagging fences & stolen Christmas lights.

I'll bid $2, just so I can do the neighbourly (pun intended) thing and shut the whole sorry waste of electrons down.

Duncan Grieve provides some interesting commentary here:

https://thespinoff.co.nz/media/11-12-2018/stuff-the-media-monster-no-one-wants-to-own/

Personally I don't think that it's commercially viable as a journalism focused business over the long term, but it could still be a good earner if they can find a way to maintain and monetise their huge audience. From that point of view there is probably some merit in becoming a content aggregation/curation platform with the intent to drive traffic to their satellite business that resell electricity, broadband, etc.

I can't believe I'm saying this but my local Stuff paper the Timaru Herald is pretty good.

Without them we would have nobody to hold the local council to account. Nobody goes to council meetings but they report on contentious issues and so bring them to the publics attention. There's been one particular issue lately which the paper has been hounding the council about and it's starting to look as though something shady has been going on.

That probably wouldn't have come to light without them.
