We're on the Kapiti Coast and have been invaded by these little blighters.

 

They are a little larger than an ant and have quite a hard shell.

 

We haven't seen them before, does anyone know what they are?

Thanks, per above, this is it. Initially we were concerned it might be a form of cockroach, so glad to find out it's just a harmless Aussie. Strange we haven't seen them in earlier years.
