So I found my spa pool nuck warm and half full.

Turns out it has a leak and it's tripped the circuit, turned it back on at the mains but it cuts instantly.

The first problem the leak... it's only half full and stopped so maybe leaking from a jet?

Any advice

Which is probably a damn good thing, Electrics and water are seldom a good mix... especially when you are wanting to then immerse yourself in the water...

First unplug/remove the breakers...

Then go hunting for the leak,

Once you have found and fixed the leak make sure any water is well away from the pump /heater...

Then see if the thing will run....

Otherwise.. call a pool dude.

I was looking for ideas, experience on where the leak is likely coming from? is it more likely around the motor given it's cut the power etc.

The obvious is to remove power find and fix the leak.

To be honest, the leak could be anywhere, pull off the housing, get a hose and fill the pool, then start leak hunting.... ( please don't say its a buried spa :)......

No, but it's a slow leak... likely a fast drip.. hard to find.

there will be a wet patch somewhere so shouldn't be hard to find

its like you want people to tell you where its leaking from.

have you even looked yourself?

you havent even provided simple information like the make/model of it

there are only a few places the water could leak from

could be a common problem but you still haven't included the most important information.

Don't have a spa, but a swimming pool.........check around the plumbing, usually find its a seal thats perished or a filter thats not been cleaned in a long time and clogged causing back pressure.

I take our pool pump system apart at least once a year now to check for perished seals/leaks etc. Usually find something is just loose or not sitting right from last time it was removed.

Why is it tripping the circuit ? Does the spa have a cut out for the jets if it detects the levels too low ? Or is the water dripping onto the electrics ?

If it is half full and has stopped getting any emptier, then the leak will be where the current water surface is.

Check any jets, plumbing, seams that are at the hight of the current water level.

odd that its tripping a breaker,

sounds like the heating element could have failed (corroded and shorting to earth, or a pump motor

I would have thought most spa components would have a decent ip rating,

Leak and electrical fault might be unrealated

You don't say if the pool is inground or surface mounted, also over what time frame wasi it until you noticed the leak, If the later I would start with removing all the side panels and feel around and visually check for a leak. A well insulated pool will take a considerable amount of time to cool down. Most pools has a safety cut out for low water so if it was this that tripped the curcuit and the leak slowed then it is the recrculating that maybe the source of the leak.

If your pool is inground the finding the leak will be a pain and the advice to get a pool service person to look at it.
