Bangkok smog: 50 drones to be launched spraying molasses to relieve smog

Bangkok is preparing to launch 50 drones tomorrow for spraying water in the skies over the capital. The water will contain molasses to aid in the attachment to smog particles.

The Thai News Agency is reporting that Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang says they have contacted a drone club in Nakhon Ratchasima to get 50 drones which can carry 10 litres of water each to fly over Bangkok.

The water will contain molasses which and is predicted to help relieve the smog problem. Scientists say that the molasses will assist in the trapping of smog and cause it to fall onto the ground as black drops (great result if you happen to be walking underneath at the time). Water trucks are being prepared to clean roads and vehicles which might be affected tomorrow.

Toxic air forces Thai officials to close Bangkok schools for rest of week

Thailand's Ministry of Education have ordered all schools in Bangkok and some surrounding provinces to close for the remainder of the week amid concerns over dangerous levels of air pollution.

Bangkok's air quality has fallen to harmful levels with the quantity of unsafe dust particles -- known as PM2.5 -- exceeding what is considered safe in 41 areas around the capital, the country's Department of Pollution Control said in a Facebook post
...
The Air Quality Index, AQI, is used by cities to determine levels of air pollution; according to the World Health Organization, AQI levels under 25 are considered to be acceptable for humans to breathe regularly. The AQI levels on Wednesday evening in Bangkok measured 175.
...
The governor said that about 50 drones would be deployed in the Bangkok area on Thursday in a bid to ease the ongoing smog by spraying water mixed with molasses to catch the particles in the air.

Earlier this month, officials tried to resolve the poor air quality by spraying water for three days and they're also trying to produce artificial rain, government departments have said. Authorities are also continuing to spray water from fire trucks on the capital's choked streets.

That drone must be bigger than it looks if that's a 10 litre tank.

The drone in the picture looks to be a https://www.dji.com/nz/mg-1

From web site.

The MG-1's powerful propulsion system allows the aircraft to carry up to 10 kg liquid payloads, including pesticides and fertilizers.
The combination of speed and power means that an area of 4,000-6,000 m² can be covered in just 10 minutes, or 40 to 60 times faster than manual spraying operations.

Diagonal Wheelbase 1520 mm
Frame Arm Length    625 mm
Dimensions              1471mm x 1471mm x 482mm (arm unfolded, without propellers)

Total Weight (without batteries) 8.8 kg
Max Takeoff Weight 24.5 kg (@ sea level)

And for $22,000 you can own your own https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/DRODJI9001KIT/DJI-AGRAS-MG-1S-RTK-Drone-octocopter-carry-up-to-1

Edit: added details from site.

The sticky precipitation would be lovely all over your car. A small price to pay for clear air.

IIRC molasses and water are precursors for the making of rum. Surely they could collect up the precipitation and put it to good use.

If it has smarter autonomous abilities, like being able to return home and automatically refill the 10L container and recharge when needed, then that would be pretty cool.  Didn't read whether it can or can't - but this would make a world of difference.  Can't see 10 litres going very far over a hectare of land, I use that much to water my small garden!
