Its a big day in the world of DC as they are now on the search for a new Batman.

EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros. is dating their next rendition of Batman for June 25, 2021. This is the one that Matt Reeves has been attached to as writer and director. Ben Affleck, we hear, will not be donning the Dark Knight’s tights after playing the Caped Crusader in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League and that’s because this movie will focus on a younger Bruce Wayne.

Reeves boarded Batman in February 2017, taking over for Affleck who was originally set to direct off a script he wrote with DC’s Geoff Johns. Affleck, we understand has a busy plate: As Deadline exclusively broke he is starring in and producing the feature adaptation of Kate Alice Marshall‘s novel I Am Still Alive, which Universal won in a competitive bidding scenario. The two-time Oscar winner is also starring in the Warner Bros.’ Gavin O’Connor drama Torrance. Affleck worked hard on The Batman story, but knew he wasn’t the right one for this particular version. A search is underway for a new Dark Knight.

The Batman will not be based on Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One comic which is one of Reeves’ favorites in the Caped Crusader canon.

Surely that's less "big day" and more "business as usual" for DC. I would think they're in second spot between The Doctor and James Bond for experience.

Batman has never quite worked for me. Like Spiderman, they just haven't quite captured the spirit of the comics I grew up reading.

I agree...I think though, that Affleck came closest with the implied grit, but there's always been something missing that I have never really been able to define...and he was never the humorous and camp character that the earlier movies (and TV series) tried to portray him as...

I think Jake Gyllenhaal would make a good Batman. I want to see a Batman film where he's at the peak of his abilities. The Nolan trilogy was fine because it showed an origin and ending, but really in the middle there wasn't much substance to Batman himself, the Joker was a far better character. Then Batfleck was an older disillusioned Batman. If anything I'd like to see Michael Keaton in a Batman Beyond mentor role. The Schumacher ones need to be erased from existence.

Show me a great Batman, peak of his abilities and still trying to make a difference and I'll be on board.

I'd like to see someone maybe a little different, but in what way, I am unsure.

Maybe a Batman played by someone a little less "jaded"...maybe a young, but still somewhat tough individual. Someone in their early 30's?

well that just depends on the writing. Gyllenhaal is very versatile, as is Bale. I think he'd easily make the role his own.

I haven’t really been following the Batman side of things for some time now.

Have been following the Elseworlds/Arrowverse side of things with Kate Kane/Batwoman played by Ruby Rose. It also includes Clark Kent/Superman (Tyler Hoechlin), Cara Danvers/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), Oliver Queen/Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) and Barry Allen/Flash (Grant Gustin).

Waiting for Wonder Woman to turn up at some time - it would be cool if there was another tv series, but I suspect likely just appearances in the same way Superman is.

Batman Of The Future. Kid's cartoon but surprisingly serious and sophisticated. I saw the first few series not sure where it's up to now. Better than any movies I've seen.
