So Dick Smith are offering you the privilege of purchasing a new 256Gb iPad Pro 11" WiFi from Oz via TradeMe, all duty and shipping paid for only $1653.99 guaranteed to leave their warehouse in just 1 to 2 weeks!

Thing is, the RRP in NZ is $1649 and I can grab it straight off the shelf today (and take it straight back again if there are any problems) or direct from Apple.

Granted, I could save a whopping $23 if I bought the Cellular version from them, but still...

Just a mistake or are they all high at DS?

You realise Dick Smith went bust (here and Australia of course) and the name (only the name) got sold to Kogan in Australia?

Realise they went bust here (hence the title) but didn't know the state in Australia...

Still, replace "Dick Smith" with "Kogan" in the title and my point stands!

The trademe link shows me a price of 1471.99 and to a cellular, not wifi model? So maybe a mistake?

I've found Kogan / DSE fine to deal with; I just bought a new Pixelbook from them - no other website I've found will ship these to NZ and all arrived fine with no extra customs to pay.

Dammit - wrong link! I had a few tabs open...

That one was a 10.7 previous generation and is still too expensive, but below is the one I was talking about

Did you actually save any significant money from your Pixelbook order though?

For the Pixelbook it was far more about it actually being available. You can get them from the US for a cheaper headline price, but the few places that would ship them to NZ (not Amazon itself, "fulfilled by amazon") were charging really high shipping and customs. Reshippers were worse, given the relatively high headline price. Customs and GST would be on top of that.

Cheapest I could find from the states was (from memory) NZD 1500 ish by the time it was shipped (that likely included GST). Kogan was NZD 1450 shipped or thereabouts, with GST definitely included. And they threw in a NZ USB-C charger.

You can some times get pretty sharp pricing  on parallel imported products from DSE (Kogans),recently it was ipad minis .Often they offer free shipping. But their customer service can be  a bit hit or miss.

As mentioned before it is not dick smith , but kogan.

My guess is Kogan use a standard algorithm to calculate NZ price and shipping and post them to trademe.

I don't think they'll go bust over that, it is a time saving measure that sometimes works, sometimes not. And trademe don't charge one to list, so no harm done.

I've noticed some UK suppliers do the same thing, and their trademe price can be far higher than the New Zealand bricks and mortar store price.

It's not an entirely daft idea. Doesn't cost anything to have a basic listing on Trade Me. I was looking for an item, and a trade me seller '1 day' listed an item. Having a guess it was 1day.co.nz, went to their website, and the item was cheaper there (no TM fees to pay).

They've already got the Galaxy Fold listed on their site!
