Hi all,

I have recently got my hands on an original xbox. I have purchased all the things required to upgrade my original xbox. I have searched around the web and contacted a few people in regards to original xbox modding, however none of the shops mod the original xbox anymore. The only place I have found is in Christchurch.

Purchases:

  • Modchip: Aladdin XT Plus 2
  • IDE to SATA adaptor
  • 1TB Drive.

I have seen some guides on YouTube on how to do this, however I am no good at soldering. I am just curious to see if anyone in Auckland is doing this or is capable of doing this for me.

Cheers!

May have to make a trip down to Christchurch at some point. Would still be interested in your offer. Cheers for the reply.

I'm no good at soldering either but did quite a few original XBox modchips back in the day.

The earlier versions of the XBox were much easier to do but I think it was around v1.6 that you had to start doing quite a bit more work to solder the modchip on and get it to work.

Do you at least know what version of the original Xbox you have?

I also had a few modded ones that I chucked out as they were just sitting in storage doing nothing and we moved to the South Island so didn't want to bring them with.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

You can software mod an xbox without any hardware.

All you need is an xbox controller plug to usb adaptor (easily bought from ebay or made, instructions online), a usb memory stick and a genuine copy of splinter cell.

There are modified save games you copy onto the usb stick, which boot into a modified operating system and allow you to install whatever you want onto the xbox (eg XBMC)

Google "xbox software mod" or "xbox save game mod" there are loads of guides online.
