My family are pretty invested in Game of Thrones and get together every Monday night for dinner, and to see how it's all going to end. During this week's episode, as a bunch of characters are saying goodbye to each other at Winterfell, someone in our group asked a question that seemed pretty simple, but actually had us all stumped.
In this show, and countless others, a lot of people living in cold climates are wearing what appear to be animal skins, e.g. cloaks. Why do they have the fur on the outside? Wouldn't it make more sense to have the fur on the inside?
Imagine the old sheepskin rug your mother might have had on the floor when you were a kid. Maybe you still have one. It's leather on one side and soft wool on the other. Surely having the wool near the skin would be warmer, and having the leather side out would be more weatherproof? Having the wool side out, wouldn't it hold a lot of the rain/snow and end up wet and heavy, making you feel colder?
Sorry. You can carry on with your lives now.
