For those looking for quality sources for news now that the Herald's paywall is up (a joke, before I'm hounded for this!) - the New York Times is currently offering a one-year "all-access subscription" for US $1 a week (about NZ $1.60), normally US $3.

They have another deal for US $2/week that comes with two bonus subs, so just a bit over NZ $1 a week per sub.

Charged in advance every four weeks, can cancel at any time.

The Washington Post also has a good deal for a year's digital sub:

US $45 for basic digital (normally $100)

US $65 for premium digital, which includes a gift sub for a year's access (normally $150)

Anyone keen on sharing the cost of a year's Washington Post sub? If the cost is split evenly it would be just over NZ $50 for a year's access to one of the world's better news sources. PM me if interested...

A years Guardian is NZ$50 apparently.

Its free anyway and your opinion of it as a quality newspaper may vary (I think it is) but just FYI if anyone felt like contributing.

Any chance of a link to that Guardian deal?

The cost according to the Guardian's own website is $235 for the first year.

OK, I admit it, I was looking at Contribute not Subscribe. It popped up a yellow box at the bottom with 'contribute for only a dollar a week' and I clicked that one.

Sorry.

Although it has a fairly obvious left wing bias these days, the BBC is still free. Including their myriad radio stations.
