I'm at the ripe old age of 28 and finally got a fridge with a water and ice dispenser.

I feel like a god.

Anyone else feel like they have unlocked a life achievement lately?

I love ice. An essentially unlimited supply sounds like heaven on earth to me.
One day, it will be mine. Oh yes. It will be mine.

my life achievement was finding a fridge with enough freezer space without a water and ice dispenser. I cannot bear having to change the filters or having some weird bugs growing in the system. but that's me.

My ice dispenser keeps jamming up because of the absurd frequency that self defrosts run, resulting in the ice in the hopper melting and then freezing to itself.

This is what I keep telling my spouse! I just want a regular fridge and freezer. Not more to break. Not more to maintain.

Agree with the fridge with ice maker. Welcome to the club @sdavisnz

Just make sure that you clean the condenser coils at the back of the fridge, normally once per year is enough. As often those fridges use fan forced heat removal, and the coils block up with dust. Which lowers the efficiency, and eventually causes compressor failure due to overheating. Best time to clean is late spring, so they will be clean for summer when max cooling is needed. The compressor in my approx 10 year old Samsung double door still runs smoothly and quietly. Despite having lived its whole life in a kitchen that gets to 30+ deg during the day over summer.

Also install a Microlene water filter on the supply to the fridge. As Microlene sell a model that only needs replacing once every 3 years. Compared to the filters that normally get supplied with fridges, which often need replacing every 6 months.

Life Achievement for me unlocked recently - Appearing on TV. Although it was only for a few seconds in a documentary.

Another achievement within the previous year- Learning how to install heatpumps. Have gone from having 0 heatpumps to 6 in my house now.

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ first they show how looking inside the fridge is better than opening it to see what you have, then they show how you could easily (read accidentally) trigger it to open ourself without even touching it... as if opening a fridge was even hard AT ALL???

Finally, the LED that โ€œinTWITivelyโ€ allows you to see the temp ๐Ÿ™„

If you have something in both hands then yeah, a fridge is hard to open. Or for someone with only the use of one arm.

I would love a self opening bedroom door for when I am going back with a cup of coffee and a plate of food. As it is I have to put one thing down to open the door. Fridge is the same but there are usually better surfaces nearby to put things on compared with a hallway.

I opted for the alternative life achievement: "Oh god, a fridge with an ice dispenser... I'd have to call in a plumber..." You can have either one, but never both. Take that 100%ers.

I am 52 and have not done that. Mainly because plumbing one in would be very tricky in our house!

I'm finding that the older I get, the more expensive things that fall into that category become!

I imagine that it would depend upon the documentary...

if it was about nefarious dealings in dodgy bits of Auckland, then not such an achievement...! If about heat pump installers, better!
