Better late than never....

Ive got a course to get to in Auckland City over the next couple of days and thought Id take the ferry from Birkenhead to town....  now... anyone tell me how you obtain tickets for this ? Do you just jump on and pay on the ferry or buy a ticket from somewhere before hand ? The maxx.co.nz website is pretty light on giving this sort of information :(

TIA

Not 100% sure as I've always caught the Northcote Point version (the total of 2 times that I've caught the ferry!), but I'd assume it's just like a bus where you pay someone (the driver for example) as you get on. I know that coming back (from Auckland to The NC or Birkenhead) you can buy your tickets from the Auckland ferry terminal which is pretty flash and has coffee shops etc.

I believe that Birkenhead is run by Fullers. You can pay for your trip when you leave the downtown ferry terminal.

From the MAxx website

Fullers
For ferry services operated by Fullers Auckland (except Waiheke Island) you can buy your ticket from the Downtown Ferry Terminal, whether you are travelling to or from this destination. You can also buy tickets at the Fullers' Devonport ticket office.
