Oh dear I can hear the purists choking on their Vodka Martini's 🍸 now.

New James Bond film will feature black British actress Lashana Lynch taking over the famous codename (15 Jul, 2019)

I love this bit:

Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don't work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed. Well, certainly not at the beginning."

Oh well James no more cunning linguistics and keeping the British 🇬🇧 end up with Pussy Galore's many parts whilst learning a new tongue. 😎

I would take what the Mail on Sunday have to say with a large grain of salt.

"You expect me to talk?"

“No, Mr Bond, I expect you to die”

Bond is still a guy, however 007 has been assigned to a new agent who is a woman.

PC gone mad.

Yes I get that "James Bond" isn't now a black woman, she just has the 007 code name, but it's still screwing with a classic series in the name of modernizing it for no other reason than to be politically correct.

Not only female but black too. Ticking all the boxes. Producers should go for the trifecta and make the character LGBTQ as well.

Odds are, we’ve already had a gay/bi 007, just like we’ve already had a gay/bi US president

I wondered how many posts it would take for this trite cliche to be rolled out - six, in the end.

And all the other predictable responses (what other ‘difference’ can we throw in? Ha ha ha) soon followed.

Worth it just to wind up the “PC gone mad” crowd, I reckon!

All this says to me is that times change. In the 1960s James Bond was a misogynist sexist pig, but Sean Connery was the pinnacle of seductive cool. For me Bond died when he left the series. Yet if Goldfinger came out today, it would be dismissed as hopelessly antiquated, with a childishly naive plot and cardboard characterisations, never mind its portrayal of women (though they were piloting aircraft and attacking Fort Knox). What makes it an iconic film is what it represented in the context of its time. Britain was broken by World War II and everyone was on rations in the 1950s. Bond put it back on top of the Empire with his suave manner and quintessentially British Aston-Martin and exotic for the time location shots. They made Britain look good, never mind that the British were producing the worst cars in the world during this period.

After Connery I only watched Bond films for the stunts, if I watched them at all. I always liked Roger Moore as an actor, but I thought he made a terrible Bond. He trivialised the role and turned it into a cartoon character. By the time he left I was no longer interested so I am not in the slightest bothered by the latest changes. I may still watch the films for the stunts. Beyond that, I don't care. The magic died for me a long time ago.

Agree ❗️

Though they tried with Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan to bring back the Connery style, they failed! because they still couldn't get Roger Moore's characterisation out of their minds.

But I believe with Daniel Craig they succeeded to, in some degree, even surpass the Connery characterisation. They at least got back to a more serious, suave and a less misogynistic Bond whilst still retaining his hedonistic ways by using more believable and intelligent plots and less of the pretty bimbo's.

I don't see any issue. The franchise needed to be modernised.
