well damn!!! I missed out on standing tickets for the disturbed tickets in christchurch. So on tuesday, off to trademe i go.. Upon almost dying at the shock of the prices on there, i bit the bullet.. thinking that its only going to get worse as the concert gets nearer, and i buy two tickets for $260 (only needing one as single tickets were going for $180-200ish, was planing on selling the other for $1reserve). Tickets were $82.50 each at ticketek.
Now what happens today? The rock announces the promoter has released the final allocation of tickets.. WHAT>>? the ticketek website said they had sold out! not that there was more to be released at a later date, there is a difference there! Had i have knowen i wouldnt have purchased off those s.o.b's on trademe. Not impressed at all.
Lesson well learned here!! I wish trademe would do something about scalpers on trademe, and while im wishing id wish that promoters would be honest from the start!! Im $100 out of pocket if i can even sell this ticket for the 82.50 ticketek will be charging..

I guess you haven't bought concert tickets lately. This sort of thing always happens. I got front row centre tickets to a show an hour before show time once! Also, often can pick up a bargain on trademe closer to the concert rather than earlier when tickets are scarce and everyone (like you!) is trying to get them.

It could be that ticket did not know about the extra allocation, so in this case you'd have to sound off at the promotors in the first instance.

Promotors of the Rock2Wellington festival over Easter weekend similarly annoyed truckloads of ticket holders when a large number of tickets were suddenly dropped to $35 for the first night (Kiss). People who had already payed full price were up in arms!

I guess the moral here is (like bazzer says) hold out...

Our office is going to Disturbed in Wellington. Bought our tickets early online through one of the official ticket agents.

My first time buying concert tickets. Went very well. Couldnt imagine trying to do it the Trademe way.

yeah i dont recommend it and i wont be again!! Ill hold out like others are saying since this seems to be the tactics promoters are using these days. Is my first concert in a couple of years (edgefest 06 when pod were playing), and has turned out to be an expensive one! oh well its only money right!

I've been on the other end before. Wellington Sevens last year. Both a mate and I tried for the same number of tickets just in case one of us was unsuccessful. They are hard tickets to get after all.

We both ended up getting 3 or 4 tickets each (can't quite remember). So I successfully sold mine on Trademe for a small profit in the end. The NZRU contacted me before the sale was complete and told me to send them back otherwise they would cancel them! They wouldn't disclose how they got my details.

I blanked out the serial number, seat numbers, and row numbers on the tickets. The only info I gave in the auction was the Aisle number (there are 36 aisles at the cake tin) and that they were plantinum covered tickets. My profile just states John from Auckland.

Trademe insisted on two occasions that they do not give out personal details to anyone other than the police under criminal investigations. All I can suspect is that I was the only John living in Auckland who had purchased tickets in that 1/72nd of the stadium, so they took a guess and successfully got me.

I learnt my lesson though. Next time I will give them to someone who didn't buy tickets to sell on Trademe 8)

So i went to the concert, it was well worth the over inflated price i paid!

Today i find that the warriors game sold out in 11 minutes, and theres already a dozen or so tickets on trademe for WELL over what they are worth, 2 are going for $440 at present. a friend told me that he thought he heard that a new law had passed recently to prevent this??

They passed a scalper law recently, but this only covers "International" events. I believe this only covers big events like the Rugby World Cup. Even the Wellington Sevens is outside of this law, and therefore not covered by anything other than the terms of condition of the tickets themselves.

Don't quote me 100% on this.

Reselling of tickets is also legal in NZ. It would be very interesting to see such a legal challenge against the organisers if they were to decline entry to people who's tickets were "onsold". There has never been such a case in NZ and while promoters have gone to the extent of prohibiting reselling of tickets as a T&C it has never been challenged yet.

Exactly! One thing they could do is to announce the release of a 100 or so tickets a day on TradeMe up until gameday which might put the scalpers off, mind you if people didnt buy them then the scalpers wouldnt have a market in the first place.
