I was just looking around for a new host as I've had a guts full of openhost and their lack luster service and uptime

In my browsing I came across these hosts

http://islands.co.nz/

http://www.webhostingnz.com/

interestingly their prices differ a quite a bit but then they both have quotes from the same happy customers!
Must be the same company, though it's a bit of a misrepresentation. Sure your customers might be happy on the more expensive hosting or on the cheaper hosting but not both at the same time!

So anyone got any host to recommended?

I've been a happy customer of webdrive.co.nz for many years - both for shared hosting and co-location services. Top notch customer service every time.

That may be the case for webdrive but since they took over openhost its pretty lacking, my websites been down for three days and all the tech support noob could respond with was "have you uploaded any pages to the doc folder". In response to "I've noticed numerous outages over the last few days for extended periods of time and my site has now been unreachable for a day, can you please have a look. As I write this, my site is still down I messaged them Saturday and twice today, once this morning and again this evening!

Thanks for the leads on the hosts, I'll have a look, don't want to get myself caught out again with polymorphic hosts!

Yeah you need to define your requirements...

1:  Must be NZ based or is US based hosting acceptable?
2:  Linux or Windows? php/ruby/etc or asp/asp.net?
3:  Databases?  MySQL or SQL Server Express or SQL Server (full)
4:  How much traffic do you need per month?

I'm with webdrive and highly recommend that you move from OpenHost to their WebDrive plans, eventhough they're now owned by WebDrive.

Yes, the whois details for both domains confirm.

Asking for hosting recommendations on a like Geekzone, is a bit like asking all the religious leaders of the world to tell you which is the best :-)
