To get Amazon Music, which I like much better that Spotify, I need to transfer my Amazon account to Amazon.com.au. Amazon tell me my purchases and kindle books will transfer fine, and I can still order from amazon.com no problems. I mostly order physical things from the USA, use their streaming music, and order an occasional kindle book.

It is possible to move an account back from AU to Com.

Are there any downsides to moving my account from .com to .com.au?

Yes that is an option, but if there's no downside to having one account I'll just use my main amazon account.

Do you have Prime? I Don't think that transfers, and that will have downsides.

No I don't use Prime. I used it for a month when it was free but there aren't enough benefits - the music selection is ok but limited, shipping doesn't help in NZ, prime video is really limited, etc.

Historically I've found the selection of books (sci-fi, space opera, dark fantasy) to be much poorer on the AU site, but I'm sure the gap has closed since I last looked a few years back.

I switched for our Kindle. Compared with USD prices the AUD prices are closer to the NZD.

I did a comparison of availability and price before I switched. I didn't find any difference for the sample of books I checked.

Thanks all. So no other downsides @Hammerer? No problems ordering from Amazon.com?

I think gift card credit put on the .com account can't be accessed if you log onto .com.au.

Sorry, I've just found out that we transferred our Kindle account only so all the rest still goes through amazon.com. I had thought we'd changed everything over. But we only have kindle purchases since the switch so didn't notice.
