Hey,

I got a Microsoft Lifecam from Dick Smith during the Microsoft 30% cashback promotion, I sbumitted the cashback request, sent the receipt, and got an e-mail confirmation saying I will get the cash ($60) within 60 days. It's been about 20 days now since the 60 day period went by and I haven't got the cash.

I e-mailed the contact address (cashback@promtel.com.au) which boucned back so then I e-mailed the only address I could find of the promtel website and got a response telling me to wait another 60 days!

Does anyone have contact details for Microsoft NZ? I got lost in wizards on their website. Promtel aren't replying now so I thought contacting MS NZ directly would be best to try next.

Hey guys

just letting you know that it is 60 working days... so if you count your weekend, then I am afraid that you might have to re-count that again....

you just have to be patient on that.. you know how the big companies are, they just have to take the full price of you, then take its time to return the money back to you....

and anyway, you can contact Microsoft contact centre 0800 800 004 and inform them your claim number and discuss the status of the claim..... if you being patient with them, they will probably will be able to send a request to that cashback place and they will ask them on your behalf and Microsoft support staff will give you the update of when is the money going to be done....

Now finally, just letting you know that, you may want to check your bank account, if you do receive money, check on that transaction, because when they do a credit, it is not from Microsoft NZ, it is from one of the strange person name and the reference will be MS cashback....

I dont think it would be inappropriate to go back to the place of purchase and demmand they sort this issue out. It was them that advertised this cash back system when the sold the items and so it is them who should do the leg work to ensure the actual purchase price (after cash back) occurs..

When I bought my Microsoft Bluetooth mouse I totally forgot about the cashback until a deposit appeared in my bank account several months later. They sure seem to take their time.

If they want our details for advertising, just ask us to fill out an online form in-store and get it over and done with... and the cashback in the form of an in-store discount.

well, your company who sell Microsoft product is the authorized dealer on behalf of Microsoft, it is Microsoft who set the rules for this claiming purposes, of course they can't offer the 30% off just like that, welcome to the bureaucratic world of Microsoft....

Neither do I, but hey, we got 30% off on the Microsoft product, when is the last time Microsoft product do this kind of promotion with 30% off, the most is 15%-20% or maybe just at this weekend just past, bond & bond selling microosoft product with 5% off.... and their product are like yuck, box are broken.. etcetc..

I must say that the 'Cashback' promotion I utilised in Dec 2007 (Microsoft) has actually discouraged me from ever buying Microsoft hardware again.

I submitted claims in Dec 2007 and it was approx April 2008 before I received the cashbacks.

I did ring Microsoft in approx Feb 2008 and they confirmed that my claims had been lodged in their system shortly after I had submitted them, they confirmed that they had all the necessary details/receipts to authorise the payments BUT said that I would have to wait to receive the money.

When they say that the money will be received within 60days this should surely be the case - the fact that they are a 'big' company is no excuse - the fact that they are a large IT organisation would suggest that once the data is in their system it should be a very quick process to pay a direct credit.

As above my experience with that Cashback promotion has made me less likely to buy Microsoft hardware again which should surely have not been their intention.

Cashbacks are designed around the principle that only 70% of people take them up, either becuase they foget or can't be bothered because of previous bad experiences, and sometimes because its too hard to chase them up, although I haven't encountered this in NZ.

If you really want to get this sorted quickly I would suggest going back to the retailer. Even though the cashback is through protel via MS, it is still the responsibility of the retailer under the CGA (consumer guarantees act) or the FTA (Fair Trading Act), I forget which one it is!

I would suggest trying the following:

Inform the retailer that you're still waiting on a cashback for a product sold by them. They'll most likely advise you to contact MS, or anyone but them! Advise them that you have tried this and gotten no where, and under the CGA/FTA the responsibility is with them as they sold the product. Give them time to sort it out, say 1-2 days, but if they haven't gotten back to you chase them up! Make sure you're speaking with the store manager, and if you get no where with them speak to the regional manager. Get their full name and contact details, preferably an E-Mail address as well. I have found in about 10-20% of situations in the past this gets it sorted.

If you still after a week have no luck, send an E-Mail to the commerce commision detailing the offer, and what you've done to chase it up. Make sure you cc the retailer on it, their head office and the company who the offer was with if you have that address also. Usually this will get it sorted.

If this still doesn't work, and you want to see it through to the end on principle, lodge a claim under the disputes tribunal. It will only cost you $30, and most likely they'll want to settle beforehand. Just make sure you docement everything that you've attempted to do to recover your money! So many people loose cases because they turn up unprepared, or get emotional during the process. Oh, and if it is settled beforehand, get the retailer to pay your $30 too

^ Ok, You are misusing the CGA here when in no way it's the retailers fault. Luckily CGA is full of wise people who don't go around and claim money from the Retailer for cashbacks when it's not their responisibility unless they wrongly advertised it.

I suspect if you are going to invoke the Disputes Tribunal it would be against Msoft, as they are the ones you have sent the guff to,

..However, if you have a copy of the advertising (flyer from the shop/Newspaper) with lots of lovely sayings like "now only XXX with cash back" then the retailer is probably also in the gun aswell.

I am also waiting on my cashback, BUT I did not buy my webcam for the cashback, so am not overly worried about the time frame. If you solely decided your pruchase on the cashback, then I am sorry for you.

IANAL, but my understanding is that you can go to the retailer and ask for them to hlep resolve your cashback issue, as they sometimes have access to contacts which you will never know exist. But your gripe is with MS, as it was solely their promotion. This is no different to you buying a raffle ticket of someone, and then your prize was not delivered within 60 days, you would hardly take that person to court!
