I understand the importance of Country of Origin certificates and the laws surrounding that, particularly for food products.

But I am intrigued by the idea of legality of the need to declare the country of dispatch for an item. I recently ordered something for my daughters birthday, 15 days in advance, with a delivery window of 10-14 days. Crikey, a bit long I thought, but it was a certain day deal website. However, on the 14th day I had no tracking number so I chased them up, yeah, not even dispatched. I escalated it and was then told it was 10-14 business days, so I said if that the case why did the website and my order confirmation not say this.

At the very least, they should say 10-14 business days, but I think as well they should say being shipped from China, Latvia or Malaysia, whatever, cos if I'd known it was coming from overseas, I would not have taken the risk.

Does anyone know if there is a law that says they need to confirm country of dispatch?

Okay, let's just edit that original post.

First we'll delete all the stuff about country of origin because that doesn't appear to have anything to do with the rest of the post.

Then we've got a great bloody long paragraph about they and them and a something and a certain website. It's all pretty vague and doesn't help the reader to understand your situation. Consider rewriting it more succinctly.

Let me try to answer your question based on what I think I've understood.

You ordered a thing from a place and you haven't got it. You reckon it's a delivery window of 10 - 14 days, they reckon it's 10 - 14 business days. These things are always measured in business days - I'm surprised you don't know that.

I'm not aware of any law in NZ requiring a seller to state if they're dropshipping and where they're shipping from. That's up to you. Caveat emptor and all that.

I put in the country of origin part as I was preempting someone else bringing that up. In my experience on all types of forums there is always someone that brings an unrelated to topic to the table.

I agree that business days are the norm, but I normally see business days on my order form or the ordering website, when neither said that it didn't even cross my mind it was business days, perhaps in hindsight I should have done, but I was thinking with my consumer hat not by work hat.

I agree, I'm not aware of any drop shipping laws either, hence I asked, I just think it should be a requirement, so if it isn't, then perhaps something should be done to make it a requirement. It might greatly affect many peoples buying choices. I wouldn't mind if it was on time, heck I've ordered stuff from the UK and received it in 5 days, I've had stuff from the US, its taken 3 weeks, and stuff from China has taken 7 days to 37 days. As I am now at business day 13 and still no tracking number, my concern is that they won't make their own deadline, and at this rate will exceed their vague time line of 2-3 weeks, and it gets extended suddenly to 1 month. When one glances over the ETA, there is a vast difference in expectation when you read 10-14 days, 2-3 weeks or 1+ month.

Its just a pet hate of mine, this vaguery about delivery times, yet they've held my money since day one, I know its the norm, doesn't mean I have to like it.

If it's business day 13 and no tracking number, you might just have to cancel and ask for a refund.
