I came across users on Reddit selling Spotify family account invites for less than $4. How does this work and what is the legality of this process? It's clearly against Spotify's TOS but are there any laws surrounding this??

These are hacked/stolen.

So sure, you can use them, but when the account owner wises up they'll stop working.  Spotify might also disable it if/when they realise the account has been breached etc.

As for laws, yes, I believe it's illegal to receive stolen goods, but how that works with account information vs a physical thing, no clue.

Summary: Don't.

Not always stolen. Sometimes it's just people trying to get cheaper Spotify by getting a family plan and then dividing the cost by the others using it

There was talk not long ago of Spotify requesting location services on your phone to make sure your address matched that of the family sharing address but not sure if this has been put in place.

Yes it will break their TOC. Use at your own risk.
