Hi,

I need to do some psychometric tests, I've been told to practice as much as I can. My problem is I've been sent examples to practice, but they haven't given any answers, so when I can't figure it out I can't use the answer to work out the strategy.

1) I need to figure out the bottom right number:

                4        2        9

                6        3       10

               10       5         ?

The answer is one of these: 21 / 12 / 16 / 15 / 11

2) I have 3 boxes with 4 numbers, and need to find the last number in the last box:

             16       5                  12      3                  9       5

              4      17                   5     16                  2       ?

The answer is one of these: 15 / 17 / 10 / 13 / 18

When I find a pattern with these, it is too weak to be correct, I just can't see a real pattern.

1 ) The only answer I come up here is 11 - the sequence of each row going down? Doesn't seem enough?

2) The only answer I come up with here is 15 - the sequence of the bottom right hand corner numbers? Also doesn't seem enough?

For most of the others I had to do quite a bit more calculating?

I'd go 12 for the first one.  Work down the columns, take the first number, add n to get the number below it, then add n x 2 to that number to get the bottom one.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

For No1, I believe the answer is 12.

My theory:

  •  4 - 2 + 7 =9    (top line)
  •  6 - 3 + 7 = 10 (middle line)
  • so 10 - 5 + 7 = 12 (bottom line)

validated with:

  • 4 + 2 = 6 + 4 = 10 (left column)
  • 2 +1 = 3 + 2 = 5 (middle column)
  • so 9 + 1 = 10 + 2 = 12 (right column)

haven't looked at 2 yet

netspanner:

First one 19  9 + 10 = 19

Except that's not one of the available answer options...

Longshot for 2), I go with 18

in box 1, (5-4) squared (=1) + 16 = 17

in box 2, (3-5) squared (=4) + 12 = 16

so in box 3, (5-2) squared (=9) +9 = 18

Thanks so much, your long shot looks a lot better than mine. I need to start the test soon, I hate these and the stress they cause.

Why have you got two threads for the same thing?  Closing this one in lieu of the other since it was started first: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=48&topicid=261636
