Our Price Guarantee

* If you find a lower price on an identical stocked product locally we will beat it by 15%.

But provide NO definition of locally.

Is locally within 1km, 10km, Same Suburb, Provence, Island, or with the "Global Economy" the same Country?

(I'm not worried, but was wondering!)

Which is great for where I live, where Mitre 10 is the only hardware store. I have asked and was told it would be dealt with on a "case by case" basis.

I used the price guarantee on boxing day, all I had to show was the HN website. However I am in Christchurch and we do have HN locally.

Have never had an issue with it when from an NZ retailer that is either in the same city, or that provides delivery / online ordering. Never tried if it was for somewhere that I couldn't realistically go to buy as an alternative.

You'd probably be OK using Bunnings' policy as a guide, given they are the primary competitor so likely to do a similar thing.

Our lowest prices policy applies to any lower price on an item that is in-stock and available for delivery or collection on the same day from a competitor’s online or physical store in New Zealand. It applies where our competitor’s price (including GST and delivery charges), is lower than our price.

The biggest problem is that so much of what these places sell is unbranded stuff.

So you buy a plastic bucket for say $20. Then you find a similar plastic bucket in a competitor's store for $10.

"Ah. Not an identical product. Similar, certainly. Identical? No."

To be honest given the size of NZ and the ease with which you can buy online, I'd modify my comment to say local is probably anywhere domestic in NZ these days.

I think we can exclude Provence because surely they wouldn’t price-match something selling in France.

Which is pretty much what the Bunnings' policy says, so I think it would be a good point to raise with M10 if they declined due to distance.

That'd indeed be province then. Not capitalised, and an 'i' in place of the first 'e'.

What makes it quirky and slightly confusing is your indiscriminate use of capitals. Originally you wrote Provence (which is a region in France) when you meant ‘province’ - an area or region within a country. Then it’s all compounded by use of possessive commas. 😀
