Clive Eric Cussler was an American adventure novelist and underwater explorer. His thriller novels, many featuring the character Dirk Pitt, have reached The New York Times fiction best-seller list more than 20 times

I always enjoyed the Dirk Pitt Novels though I probably stopped reading them about the time he started getting guest writers involved.

I rate Dirk Pitt as one of the greatest protagonists along with Jack Reacher etc.

Heard last night :( Loved the Dirk Pitt series, but same as you, when started getting other writers involved I the novels lost their edge.

A loss. Not only as a novelist, but had quite a few notable marine salvage discoveries  - the 1st iron clad ship, etc.

I have enjoyed most of his novels, and quite a few were instrumental in keeping my sons interested in reading.

Nice easy adventure reading, and by reading, tend to glean unusual factlets, mostly that are of no use to anyone,,,,

Ditto with Wilbur Smith - have read every novel, and has deepened my knowledge of the initial forays and settlement of Africa.
