In the early 70s Kenny Rogers and The 1st Edition toured NZ so often it seemed like they lived here. I believe Rogers launched his solo career on an NZ Country music tv show.

Looking at another reference it seems that the NZ tours were seen as a way to clear some debts. Some members of the 1st Edition eventually wanted more money to do the tours leading to the breakup.
