The Mrs (and I to some extent, chair is more important to me) needs a desk and a chair, she has an electric standup sit down type desk at work and a high quality chair.

So we have today and tomorrow to get something. I see $500 for a desk. But dont want to spend that so she will settle for a sit down and just walk around house more often. We need a chair that doesnt have MASSIVE lumbar bulges that is STURDY as Im normally 115kg but overweight by 20kg. But due to back issues I cannot tolerate chairs that seem to think they know where everybodies lumbar curve is but dont. So fairly flat backs are best, I can always put a roll up under my lumbar if needed.

I work nights from home, she works the day, so should be fine. We have been needing this for ages as work allows her to work as much as she wants from home but being  a Senior Biologist with a PHD and IT certifications and experience in PM and Agile etc, she ends up with a lot of work she has to go into work for, so this will be nice little break for her.

I'd ask employer if she can get her chair for these 4 weeks. We been told to take whatever would make us comfortable, but report it first with pictures, etc.

Can't you go into the office today and borrow a chair? This should still be accessible - at least until it closes tonight, before enforcement commences. Your employer has to provide you with the tools you need to work. Companies are giving employers the option to borrow materials and other things they need to WFH. You shouldn't have to buy this stuff. I know of one company that only asked employees to make sure to record serial numbers and send to a register.

allheart.org.nz - Charity store that gets ex commercial furniture. I have a Zody chair from them for $200, The have Formway life chairs for about $300. Both have adjustable lumbar supports. Cheaper options available as well.

Albany and Manukau in Auckland.

You can feel good as the proceeds go to charity. Not affiliated - just a fan.

Thanks Freit and Kio but, no unfortunately they went full lock down last week outside essential services. Really messed up as they said they would work out something today but of course we ALL are going on full lock down tomorrow.

Went to warehouse stationary for a sit stand wind up jobby as they have turned their phones off across the country this afternoon, even the 0800 number. It said 2 in stock but they had 0, next is 30km drive each way, so hoping the phone works at 8am, or will be risking driving to find zip. The delivery service or buy online is turned off, i guess for obvious reasons but was before full lock down was even mentioned.

So my question in, how good of quality is warehouse stationary furniture? Is a sit stand manual wind desk worth $300? was $500.

I told her she should have be pressing for furniture well before this so Im pretty pissed off when Im doing my best to help. Coronadivorce virus.

That sounds good. I need a quality chair due to 4 crushed vertebrae disc s1 to l2. The desks that have pre formed lumbar are only good for the people they made the chair from and i find it usually people below 6ft4.

Does your chair have a weight limit?

I though that was Thursday for the full lock down. Doesn't that give you tomorrow to sort out something? I'd be pressing the employer to come to the party. They cannot force a substandard situation onto your wife.

Yeah had a look, crazy good prices on chairs but all pre Lumbar support. I suppose if height adjustable i could put it on the lumbar, but 1mm disc movement can mean the difference between no pain and not feeling my foot, thats why I usually go for no lumbar chairs, ever since I owned Peugeot gti 180 with those hand stiched leather seats from recaro, even with electronic lumbar my back couldnt handle it, although Im really wide in the chest which might not have helped. But I love my Subaru because it is simple, electronic back, down and tilt, the seat is straight, no implied lumbar support and when I bottom it out and have the seat all the way back, with the hand stitched Momo wheels (not sure if latest model has them) they are so easy to grip one hand making for a relaxing long distance drive. Its the same with long distance sitting, but I have learnt I must get up and move, I think this is the same for those that get wrist pain.

Ive said to her if it means you can only do 20 hours a week due to comfort that is there problem, if she needs to get up and shake her wrists out etc, been waiting on an OOS op for ages through acc (surprise)

If I am going passed albany tomorrow Im popping my head in either way for a nosey first place to look.

this will work, will it fit in the back of an Outback is the question..... if not strap it to the roof sideways, not too far to drive.

She is trying but its 8000 staff they need to sort out for and were told Friday nobody but essentials allowed in the buildings as of Friday afternoon.

I definitely agree to that. She Flappn saves their backn time and time again, does free work on her commutes and works on weekends, none of the other Zoologist or GIS staff have a PHD let alone 2. Im not angry at her but wish she had of raised it harder this morning, she did but was given the " we have raised it and SHE, (middle manager) is working on sorting out a solution but is under the pump given the time frames". I dont blame the middle manager either.

There was talk of subsidies, but as of COB tonight she has not heard anything.

Will trade me be closed down next 4 weeks, and if you are on the road will you get pulled over and if so what could you use as an essential need to travel?

You can't work in a sub-optimal condition. The company is still responsible for health and safety, regardless of location.

This was my point. I do get its unprecedented and there are a LOT of people working from home, but they had all weekend to start working this out, I guess they didnt expect FULL LOCK DOWN would be mainstream within 2 days. But still. They know she has OOS Wrist Injury from their work place, along with sit stand work station due to hip injuries, which dont hurt when working outside but sitting down for 2 hours does. So I dunno, I reckon take as much time as she needs to be pain free if they dont provide the right gear. Using our own Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard.

I reckon they will come out with some kind of system of delivering stuff but that will mean being an emergency travel so will need government approval.

But people have to be able to get deliveries and drive trucks, out friend just ripped a house down and built a new on in Kohi to make money and have 3 weeks to get out. So that must be happening to others.

Good luck - I don't know the specs of my chair, but when I was there I looked the model up online and it was $1k USD new, so I brought it no questions asked. Love it!

They are really nice people there, if they can help you disassemble the desk to fit it in the car they will likely do so.
