Thought it could be a good idea to have a thread to list which fast food chains and restaurants will be trading and operating under level 3, their PR responses and how they'll be handling social distancing/contactless/online delivery etc.

Subway

Mcdonalds

A McDonald's spokesman said the company would be "working hard over the next week to get as many restaurants open on Tuesday as we can, There are a number of factors we have to consider, including the time our suppliers needs to ramp back up, getting stock around the country, and helping our franchisees and their staff get ready to open safe and happy restaurants.Any restrictions on the menu will depend on the amount of time we have to plan for reopening."

Dominos

Dominos said it would take at least up to 24 hours to reopen. Cameron Toomey, CEO of pizza chain Domino's, said the first of the country's 133 stores would be ready to begin deliveries about 24 hours after the country moved to alert level 3, with the rest open by the end of the third day "We make all our dough fresh instore, and the dough has a proofing period," "We'll get in the first day to clean and tidy the stores, and make dough which will be ready for the next day."Pizza goes down the line into the oven then gets cut, so staff can maintain those distancing guidelines, but some items require people to leave one station and go to another," said Toomey.

IIRC Restaurant Brands have to use the same drivers they use for Pizza hut delivery for KFC delivery and they have their own delivery set up at kfcdelivery.co.nz because mcdonalds paid Uber a lot of $$$$ for exclusive delivery on Uber eats. I remember there was a rumor Mcdonalds would only join uber eats in NZ if KFC didn't. Not sure how thats legal seems anti-competitive. But it is what it is.

I just want to see how our local fish and chip shop deals with it (if they choose to), or an indian....at least they had the delivery model and/or takeaway pickup model already.   They just need to work out a pre-paying model over the phone/internet.  But I guess if they can do contactless payment at the door or something.

Do you have a source for that? It seems much more plausible that RB doesn't want to pay 30%~ commission to Uber Eats, doubly so given that they have their own delivery personnel.

Their hiring practises are pretty dodgy as well, calling their delivery staff "contractors".

Only if they figure out a way to do it.   But there are so low technology methods, phone orders, but paywave outside their premisis for paying, or internet banking? (the latter might take some tiem to clear the payments), or get an app built.   Some of these places might need to spend some money to be in a position to earn some money.

Re: Hell Pizza: They were doing contactless deliveries while we were briefly in Level 3. They can take payments with debit/credit card on their website.

Not sure how Subway is planning to handle level 3, they have not (from what I have seen) said anything about the practicalities of how they are going to do it.

Uber eats expected to be up and running by lunchtime on Tuesday.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/121156090/uber-eats-to-resume-next-week-with-contactless-delivery-and-tipping-option?

I find the tipping option quite insidious. I would rather that the cost of getting me my food that I have ordered was reflected directly in the cost that I am required to pay to get said food.

I wonder how much of the tip actually makes it's way back to the food outlet.

Love how RB put "own business" in quotes. Wonder what the likes of the employment court would have to say about that...!

Got an email from Subway yesterday to advise:-

New Zealand, we’re ready to serve you. Subway® restaurants will reopen from April 28 for takeaway and delivery orders.

To safely provide delicious, fresh food, our restaurants will be operating with additional hygiene and social distancing measures.

Our Subway® restaurants will be:

Preparing food safely, with gloves and other hygiene measures.
Providing contactless pick-up at restaurants and for Subway delivery.
Cleaning and sanitising restaurant surfaces hourly, including our contactless pick-up stations.
Monitoring the health of our team and only allowing healthy employees to work.

For your safety, we’ve removed face-to-face contact at our restaurants. Food can be pre-ordered though the Subway® App, online ordering and with Uber Eats. We won’t be taking any in-restaurant orders or payment under COVID-19 Alert Level Three.

Your health is our priority and we will continue to follow the guidance of New Zealand health authorities as we continue to tackle COVID-19. Thank you for continued trust and support in our local Subway® restaurants.

 Sincerely,
Chris Churchmichael
Country Director, Subway® New Zealand

For the KFC delivery jobs "must have current WOF and registration" is problematic.  I thought the government had given an extension/amnesty on WOF as it might be a while before WOF shops are up and running.  I hope they've also allowed for the fact you can't re-register a car with lapsed WOF.

I really hope I can get a coffee at either the local cafe or via McDonalds/BP/Z via an app or something soon.

Add me to the list of people hoping that small local takeaway outfits will find a way to operate safely. There is a fantastic Thai place a few minutes walk from my place, owned by a really lovely young couple, and it would be great if they could relieve some of their financial pain when we enter level 3.

I have no inside knowledge on the subject, but I suspect the odds of the job interview involving a walk to the carpark are slim. I'd expect they state their expectation of WOF status in the contract, and then its up to the driver to take care of it.
